IPSO and FBI looking for missing evidence during search of local police chief’s home and office

ST. GABRIEL, La. (BRPROUD) – St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin Ambeau Sr. is the focus of an ongoing investigation involving the FBI and Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office.

This all goes back to a deadly home invasion that took place in 2019.

Two people died during the home invasion which took place in St Gabriel.

The district attorney was recently compiling a case for trial and began to look for evidence.

Evidence along with some money was missing, according to the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The district attorney asked that the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office look into this.

That is when IPSO requested that the FBI assist with this investigation.

Two parallel investigations were started, one on a state level and another on a federal level.

With search warrants in hand, the home of Chief Kevin Ambeau Sr. and St. Gabriel Police Department were searched by law enforcement.

IPSO says, “they retrieved computers, cameras, phones and video” in an attempt to find the missing evidence.

$3,500 was also taken out of a vehicle.

Sheriff Stassi says, “It’s never a proud day when law enforcement has to investigate one of our own agencies. Not our proudest moment, We want to get justice for the two people that were killed.”
